Danville needs bold and enterprising leadership.  I wholeheartedly believe in the people of this community and believe we deserve policies and programs that will significantly enhance our quality of life.  From the Heights to the East End, Rabbittown to Denvale West, my administration will commit to reinvestment in our people, commit to the renewal of our neighborhoods, support public safety measures, and realize our immense economic potential.  I’ve outlined my plan of action to create a Danville focused around supporting the people. 

Because Danville deserves better.  

My vision for Danville includes the following:

  1. Establish and encourage a formal pipeline partnership between DACC, Vermilion Advantage, all Danville high schools, and Danville’s corporate community to keep our young talent here and to provide a supply of trained workers for our employers. 
  2. Create a job retention toolkit for Danville businesses to incentivize expansion and employment growth, particularly for returning citizens, youth, and Danville residents who participate in federal public assistance programs
  3. Actively partner with philanthropic organizations to provide appreciable financial support to cultivate minority and women-owned businesses
  4. Leverage CSX and Norfolk Southern rail lines as a means to attract industry and jobs back to the core of our City
  5. Secure Danville’s finances- develop a pragmatic plan to fully fund our pension obligations 
  6. Budget this financial obligation annually to support the police and fire retirees. 
  7. Stabilize and evaluate the direction of the Civic Center.  Recognize it as a key feature in the recreational, entertainment, and sports culture in Danville.  
  8. Let the free market establish economic growth in Danville.  
    1. Support the growth of new businesses and potential businesses on a consistent, open, transparent basis at all times, while continuing to support existing businesses in their efforts to maintain or grow their establishments.
  9. Reestablish the City’s relationship with Vermilion Advantage, the Village of Tilton, and other regional municipalities.  
  10. Establish a permanent use for the casino, cannabis, and slot machine income received by the City that directly benefits the residents of Danville.  
    1. Reduction in sales tax, property tax relief, sewer tax relief, or some other financial benefit should be granted to our residents.  If the State of Illinois allows these businesses, we should utilize the revenue generated from them to directly decrease the cost of living for our people.  

  1. Honor Danville’s history
    1. Establish and fund a business program to provide financial support to our small, family-owned businesses that have been operating in Danville for at least 25 years, operate in historic neighborhoods, or contribute to the historic, cultural, and artistic fabric of Danville
    2. Ensure that Danville’s historic buildings are preserved to the maximum extent possible.  Active and early enforcement of city codes must be a daily concern.  
  2. Support Code Enforcement
    1. Actively support ongoing code enforcement
    2. Encourage and promote transparency in the code enforcement process
    3. Establish a procedure to include active response to resident complaints related to code enforcement
  3. Invest in Housing
    1. Establish relationships with partner agencies such as the Vermilion Housing Authority and East Central Illinois’ Community Action Agency to participate in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Homeownership opportunities
    2. Increase the City’s financial commitment to housing stabilization and home repairs across the City
    3. Divest city-owned vacant lots
    4. Pursue FEMA, Brownfield, and other resources to address hazard mitigation and floodplain issues 
  4. Preserve our Natural Features
    1. Establish a tree planting program with neighborhood partners to plant 1,000 trees a year
    2. Conduct a feasibility study to determine the economic impact and quality of life benefits of establishing the Stoney Creek Corridor as a natural asset to the City. 
  5. Support Investment in the Madison Court Neighborhood
    1. Capitalize on the recent investments made by Carle and Christie Clinics by establishing mechanisms to enhance economic and housing opportunities in the Madison Court Neighborhood area.  
    2. Connect the Madison Court Neighborhood to Downtown Danville and to the Hospital Campus to enhance economic interests between the corridors while continuing to rid the area of substandard or vacant buildings. 
      1. Promote accessible sidewalks, tree planting, and public art installations to connect these areas
      2. Support investment in existing buildings through partnerships with community organizations and property owners
  6. Reimagine East Main Street
    1. Gather data to determine the overall health of the East Main Street Corridor
      1. Update the City’s East Main Street Corridor Study with collaboration from all related community partners- including the Danville Area Community College, the Veterans Affairs, business owners, and homeowners.  
    2. Establish targeted blight removal efforts of commercial and residential properties
      1. Make affected Danville property owners whole through targeted buyouts and relocation for citizens in the most adversely affected areas

  1. Invest in existing mental health infrastructure to support Danville residents
    1. Support partnerships and collaboration with entities like Crosspoint Human Services, Worksource Development, and STEP UP Vermilion County
  2. Provide support and collaboration to non-law enforcement approaches to preventing violence such as the Violence Prevention Task Force and the Survivor Resource Center
  3. Provide support to the C.O.R.E REENTRY program to help reduce recidivism 
  4. Support the Danville Police Department’s proactive approaches to crime prevention
    1. Partner with multi-family housing developments to establish relationships and prescribe auxiliary patrols as necessary
    2. Partner with the Illinois State Police, VMEG, and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office to establish relationships and synergy among efforts

  1. Invest in Danville’s children
    1. Create a Danville “Thrive by Five” network to connect education, health, and social service professionals to create synergy of services and promote better outcomes for our children’s early education.  Modeled after Washington, D.C.’s “Thrive by Five”, we will focus on improving maternal and childhood health, development, and early learning by fostering communication and collaboration between organizations to cultivate innovative solutions.  
    2. Promote growth of local programs like Birth to Five Illinois, iGROW, and the Women’s Care Clinic
    3. Find innovative ways to support our young working families in need of reliable and safe childcare options.  These options will assist in recruiting and retaining young families to Danville.
  2. Invest in Danville’s Young People
    1. Support a “Grow Your Own” program by connecting graduates of all Danville high schools to professional opportunities within our community.
  3. Resume easily accessible obstetric care
    1. Request a plan of collaboration from each current medical group (Carle, Christie Clinic, and OSF)
    2. Recruit OB/GYN care for women and expectant mothers in the Danville area
  4. Expand the number of quality, affordable housing units for our residents
    1. Danville needs to provide diverse quality housing options across all value levels
  5. Enhance healthy outdoor recreational opportunities
    1. Establish the feasibility of connecting the City to the Kickapoo Rail Trail
    2. Continue to support the Vermilion County Trail Alliance in their efforts to expand and create biking opportunities in Harrison Park
    3. Submit Danville as a candidate for Tree City USA, an integral step to securing funding in an effort to rebuild our urban forest
    4. Make sure our financial resources are used most efficiently to provide and support our park system, including splash pads, bike trails, ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, skate parks, frisbee golf courses, and other activities that are currently in demand across the entire city, not just concentrated in one location.
